One of the best techniques to find the most effective advertisement for your marketing goals is through A/B testing.

In social media or any other platform of digital marketing, even small factors can affect the overall effectiveness of your campaign. This is why A/B testing is important.

A/B testing is basically the comparison of two advertisements or publications with the same goal but with one subtle difference in order to identify which one performs better or is more accepted by your audience or target market.

Some things you can do as variations are:

  • Use different hashtags
  • Use different designs or images
  • Change the font
  • Change the format style
  • Use emojis
  • Change the tone of the message
  • Play with different calls to action
  • Try different titles
  • Change the colors
  • Post the same ad/post at different times of the day
  • Adjust one factor of demographics (age, gender, location, etc.)

Be careful to only change one factor between the two ads or posts that you are testing or else you won’t know what factor is making one campaign more effective than the other.

For example, if you have two identical campaigns with the same graphic and same caption but you only change the colors in the graphics, the difference in each ad’s performance will help you learn more about your audience’s preferences. But, for example, if you change the color AND the caption, you won’t know if it’s the caption difference or the color difference that is making the ad or post perform better.

A/B testing is one of the best methods in digital marketing for narrowing down effective marketing campaigns to better engage with your audience. It can help take the guessing game out of marketing and make your job easier!
